Lidl Hungary has made a significant investment of nearly 60 billion forints, equivalent to approximately €162 million, in opening a state-of-the-art logistics center in Kiskunfélegyháza. This new facility, spanning over 83,000 square meters, stands as the largest warehouse for the retailer in Hungary. It is set to bolster the supply chain for around 70 Lidl stores across the nation, underscoring the company’s commitment to enhancing its operational capacity.
With the establishment of this logistics hub, more than 400 new jobs have been created, and Lidl has plans to further increase its workforce with an additional 50 employees in the near future. The center is equipped with 194 loading docks and features a refrigerated area covering 24,000 square meters. In line with sustainable practices, the facility integrates energy-efficient technologies, including a 9,000-square-meter solar panel system on the roof and an innovative use of waste heat from refrigeration for underfloor heating.
Furthermore, the logistics center is designed with a focus on environmental sustainability, as evidenced by the development of a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green area surrounding the site. This initiative not only enhances the ecological footprint of the facility but also aligns with Lidl’s broader environmental goals.
The new center is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening Lidl’s supply network across Hungary, with an estimated 4,500 pallets of goods slated to be dispatched from the facility each day. This expansion is a strategic move to support the retailer’s ongoing growth within the country.
Currently, Lidl operates 220 stores throughout Hungary and prides itself on sourcing nearly 60% of its products from local suppliers. The addition of this logistics center is anticipated to further solidify the company’s domestic operations, ensuring a more efficient distribution network and supporting its expansion plans.
